Opened in 1995 with 3 employees, the Sunshine Café essentially became a sequel to the original Casey’s Café’s of North Palm Springs and Morongo Valley and the Royal Fox Inn Restaurant in Desert Hot Springs. Casey Hutchinson was inspired by a love of unique diner’s, café’s and neighborhood joints that serve unique and high quality breakfast & lunch. Today the inspiration for Sunshine Café continues to be a labor of creativity, freshness, and friendly efficient service.

The café began to take on a personality of its own in 1996 when an attractive, enthusiastic and playful single mother of two boys with no restaurant experience walked into Sunshine Café looking for part-time work. Michelle St. Germaine’s impact on Sunshine Café was immediate. Hired as a hostess/cashier, Michelle simply worked the room, greeted every guest with smile and thanked every guest on their way out the door. As the volume of business grew, Michelle quickly found herself waiting tables as she worked the room hugging every regular customer and getting each Sunshine guest to smile and laugh. Today, the only thing about Michelle that has changed is her last name. In, June 2000, Michelle enthusiastically agreed to marry her best friend Casey, himself a single father of two girls, after a long courtship. As a typical family business, all of the children, Crystal, Jacqueline, Clay and Cooper have all worked in the restaurant at one time or another.

Sunshine Café is frequented by celebrities, politicians, word of mouth visitors from around the world and mostly our wonderful locals, who can walk past the kitchen, wave to their favorite cooks, order their favorite food from their favorite server just the way they like it. Sunshine Café will continue to be a fun and pleasant dining experience for all who come.Today, after 11 years and many upgrades, a fresh coat of paint and a new fresh image, the commitment to a superior food product, friendly efficient service and the best value anywhere under $10.00 has not and will not change thanks to our valued employees.
